How is the choir run?
The choir is a registered charity and is run by a committee who are elected at the AGM.
Come to your first three rehearsals without commitment, subscription only due if you decide to join. Also, after reahearsals, come and join us at The Fox and Hounds (opposite Christ Church), we would love to see you.
Enquiries from potential members should be directed to:
Membership Secretary: Jan de Rhe-Philipe
Tel: 01985 213193
Our fees are £120 per annum, payable in September and January. Scores and workshops are provided at no extra charge.
The Athenaeum Singers have a studentship scheme to encourage young singers.
Attendance at rehearsals:
Members are required to attend rehearsals regularly, arriving in time to register and be ready for a prompt start at 7.30 on each Tuesday, finishing at 9.30. Afterwards, join us at The Fox and Hounds (opposite Christ Church) and make new friends.
Regular rehearsals are held at Christchurch, Weymouth Street, Warminster BA12 9NS In addition, the choir holds a Saturday Workshop for choir members in preparation for each concert, which is usually conducted by our Director of Music and concentrates on aspects of performance. The normal venue for workshops is Warminster Baptist Church.
In order to maintain high standards members are expected to attend all rehearsals. If unable to attend, members are asked to submit their apologies. If you miss more than three rehearsals in a term your right to sing in the concert will be reviewed and will be at the committee's discretion. Please discuss any problems with Jo Casey or Helen Schroeder.
As a non-auditioned choir we welcome everyone who wishes to enjoy singing and improve their musical skills with us.
Very occasionally there may be a singer whose ear is not sufficiently attune to realise that they are not singing the same as those around them. If this is detrimental to the ensemble and the enjoyment of others, the Director of Music will explain the difficulty confidentially and the subscription will be refunded.
